The board of the Tinius Trust has agreed to support the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists with NOK 50.000 annually for three years. The funding will bolster global investigative journalism.

– We are very honored and grateful to receive this financial support from the Tinius Trust. Supporting independent journalism – journalism that crosses borders and exposes corruption – is more important than ever at a time when media diversity is shrinking,” says Gerard Ryle, the director of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists.

The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) coordinates major journalism investigations cross boarders, using the latest technology to facilitate collaborations. This includes high-profile stories about systemic failures, like Paradise Papers and Panama Papers.

ICIJ will use this money to continue to forge strong partnerships with media from around the world to ensure that investigative journalism can continue to play a vital role in holding the powerful to account, says Gerard Ryle.

The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists work side-by-side with more than 120 media organizations worldwide, ranging from The New York times to Aftenposten.

ICIJ has solid results from this unique journalistic collaboration over many years. The Board of the Tinius Trust wanted to offer encouragement and show recognition for their work. Hopefully the support will bring important journalism forward that would otherwise have been stopped, says Kjersti Løken Stavrum, CEO of the Tinius Trust.

The decision to support ICIJ was made by the Board on the 15th of February 2021. The support is in accordance with the Tinius Trust’s articles of association, which state that the Trust shall, when necessary, work in favor of and subsidize projects that impact the general conditions essential to ensure a free and independent press.
